Groundbreaking and Foundation Stone Laying Ceremony for Azista’s Electro-Optical Payload Factory

Azista Space successfully conducted the Groundbreaking and Foundation Stone Laying Ceremony for its Electro-Optical Payload Factory at Gujarat Space Park, Sanand, marking a major milestone in the company’s expansion and a significant step toward strengthening India’s strategic space and defence manufacturing capabilities.

The ₹500 crore investment represents a landmark initiative aimed at establishing a one-of-its-kind, space-grade electro-optical payload manufacturing facility, designed to support India’s space, and defence requirements. The facility is among the most advanced of its kind, not only in India but globally, reinforcing the country’s pursuit of technological self-reliance.

The ceremony included a traditional Bhoomi Poojan and was held in the august presence of Shri Arjun Modhwadia, Hon’ble Minister for Science and Technology, Forest and Environment, and Climate Change, Government of Gujarat, who delivered the keynote address.

Congratulating the Azista Space team, Shri Modhwadia expressed confidence that a fully indigenous satellite developed at the facility would soon be launched into space, bringing global recognition to Gujarat. He also invited global companies and startups to invest in Gujarat and explore opportunities in the rapidly expanding space sector. Senior government officials who graced the occasion included Shri Kanubhai Karamshibhai Patel, Hon’ble MLA of Sanand, Ms. Neha Kumari, IAS, Mission Director, Gujarat State Electronics Mission (GSEM), and the Superintendent of Police (SP), Ahmedabad Rural District, among other dignitaries.

The programme featured presentations outlining Azista Space’s long-term vision and the strategic importance of the upcoming facility, followed by addresses from government representatives and Azista Space leadership.

Addressing the gathering, Shri Arjun Modhwadia expressed his appreciation for the rapid growth of the space sector in the state and said:

“ It is encouraging to see Gujarat emerging as a key hub for the space sector in India. Strategic investments such as Azista Space’s Electro-Optical Payload Factory highlight the state’s strong industrial ecosystem and its role in supporting advanced, high-technology manufacturing for the nation. ”

The upcoming Electro-Optical Payload Factory is expected to significantly enhance indigenous manufacturing of advanced electro-optical systems, reduce dependence on imports, support national and international space and defence programs, and generate highly skilled employment. The project further reinforces Gujarat’s position as a leading hub for high-technology and strategic industries.
